The U.S. Department of Justice filed an unprecedented lawsuit Thursday against the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office for refusing to provide full access to records and facilities for a civil-rights investigation. The federal lawsuit

The suit alleges the Sheriff's Office is in violation of federal civil-rights laws by refusing for 17 months to fully cooperate with an investigation into police practices and jail operations. The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in Phoenix, names Sheriff Joe Arpaio, his office and Maricopa County.
The Justice Department wants extensive records related to booking procedures, language and interpretation services, arrests, and access to staff and jails.
County officials said Arpaio is jeopardizing future federal funding, which requires government agencies to comply with civil-rights laws. Six percent of the county's $2 billion budget comes from federal funding, and a loss would be "catastrophic," county officials said.

That is, if the main impetus behind the controversial legislation was, as Arizona Governor Jan Brewer said when she signed it in April, "border-related violence and crime due to illegal immigration." The fact is, despite the murderous mayhem raging across the border in Mexico, the U.S. side, from San Diego to Brownsville, Texas, is one of the nation's safest corridors.
According to the FBI, the four large U.S. cities (with populations of at least 500,000) with the lowest violent crime rates — San Diego, Phoenix and the Texas cities of El Paso and Austin — are all in border states. "The border is safer now than it's ever been," U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesman Lloyd Easterling told the Associated Press last month. Even Larry Dever, the sheriff of Arizona's Cochise County, where the murder last March of a local rancher, believed to have been committed by an illegal immigrant, sparked calls for the law, conceded to the Arizona Republic recently that "we're not seeing the [violent crime] that's going on on the other side."

i have been working nights and out of town lately and i have little to no time lately..anyhow im in phoenix arizona right now
im staying at a hotel that is about a mile away from any shopping centers or anything.. i was bored so i went for a walk in yesterday in 105 degree weather....(jesus christ)..
as i am heading to the store i see a little boxing gym called HAMMER boxing.. i walk in look around.. in my head i can beat ANYBODY in this gym.. i chalk it up to a cardio gym and went on about my business..
blah blah, we end up having to stay until tomorrow..
so today i am walking to the "hooters" restaurant in the shopping center.. i stop by the gym and say, "im from out of town, california, i wanted to maybe get some work in today"
trainer, "you have experience?"

so round one starts.... this guy was like 17 or 18 years old about 5'5'' 130 pounds... i threw a crisp jab and for the rest of the round i was like a moving punching bag!!!! focks sake this kid was cracking me clean!!! lol i was laughing kinda when he was hitting me cause i felt so sloppy.. i havent worked out in 3 weeks and i am ALL out of shape.. i didnt have my legs either, i think part of it was my shoes.. and i was hungover from the bar last night on my way to get my first meal of the day, so i was at like 50%

whenever i throw a jab he rushes me w fast combos.. really overwhelming me!! i got hit with like a 15 punch combo!!! i was in a focking tornado of gloves!! like somebody had a trash bag full of boxing gloves and dumped them on me!!! lol.. you know, like when you see a fighter getting hit with combos and they dont even know what is coming next, lol, that was me... i started to time him and catch him w the left hook.. but he still kicked my butt..
i was dead tired after round 2 that was it for me...

anyhow summary, these fools rolled out the red carpet for me to spar because they thought i was some hot shot from california.. i was wondering how the f*** i was able to get in the ring that fast!! they gave me a free mouthpiece.. they were representing arizona against california, but i was just a guy walking in NOT that guy.. they told me i got balls of steel for stepping in there.. tht i have a great jab.. gave me a couple of pointers.. they invited me to come back whenever i want.. that they were impressed and they need guys that can spar, but i need better cardio.. i kew i was out of shape but i thought it would be easy.. WRONG!!!! my nose is swollen a little but im cool.. we work nights so i havent been able to really do anything, but at least i have a story for arizona...
anyhow what do you think? is that crazy or what? why does crazy stuff like that happen to me??

your right.. i was at the right place at the right time.. i wouldnt of ended up anywhere else if it wasnt meant to be.. of all the hotels in phoenix i end up right by a boxing gym.. and i got to spar w a pro.. i lost but so what!! i love it!!! i was full of myself and had a humbling experience.. no regrets.. i love boxing.. i wasnt physically prepared as i thought i was.. but i am back on a steady schedule after tomorrow, so its back to my grind..

Moving to a new barn tomorrow!!!!?
I just have to say I am really excited because Phoenix and I are moving to a new barn tomorrow after three long months of drama at our current barn. It all started with the owner disliking rescues, paints, mixed breeds, and green horses. Which my horse is all four of those things. So she decided to tell us this as she was pretty much kicking us out of the barn. My poor baby was coming in every day with kick and bite marks all over him and she absolutley refused to move him to a different paddock(which there was one that had no horses in it that would have been perfect for him. And then she got mad at me the day I found a broken piece of glass in the arena that was from a party that she had, and she didnt want to take responsibilty for. So all in all it was not good. Haha Thats awesome!!! He has been through a lot, he was rescued from the slaughter line at New Holand and then neglected at a rescue for a year and a half, and I feel awful about what I have put him through at this barn. I cant wait to get to JHA tomorrow though and have a fresh start for both of us. Leah has been a huge help with everything as well.

That is a very good point. Phoenix is still green but he will be a jumper, that was one of the reasons I really liked this barn.
