They fight for the rights of all, L. All. That's the thing that Republicans hate so much. The "ALL" part.
You're idea of "throwing Christians into the lake" is when the ACLU defends the rights of people that Christians don't like or feel threatened by. But, see... they're also defending Christians who non-Christians feel threatened by. Who doesn't like what...doesn't matter. It's strictly the rights of every individual, regardless of whether others like it. And that includes the rights of Christians.
The ACLU isn't in the "persecuting" business. They are in the business of defending civil rights. If someone feels threatened by the fact that all people have the same rights they do...then they might feel persecuted. Unjustifiably. :)

TI-83 apps on TI-84 graphing calculator?

I have a TI-84+ silver edition graphing calculator, and I have been looking for good games to put on it. I already put Indestructo Tank and Phoenix on, but I would really like to put Bubble Bobble on. It seems to be a really good game, but it's supposed to be for TI-82, TI-83, and TI-83+. I read on a forum that someone with a TI-84+ SE calculator somehow put Bubble Bobble on their calc. How am I supposed to do this?

Tough question: Name of an instrumental jazz song?

I know...it's next to impossible to find out the name of an instrumental jazz song. Here are the only clues that I have. If you can figure it out, then you are truly a jazz guru!

1) The song is comtemporary, I'm guessing within the last 20 years or so. Probably from the 90's.

2) The song starts off with a Japanese-sounding intro, but once it gets going the oriental flavor disappears. That's probably the best clue I have for you.

3) The local radio station in Phoenix (KYOT 95.5) plays it on a relatively regular basis, much like you might hear Jesse Cook's "Mario Takes a Walk" on a regular basis. I'm pretty sure this song is not by Jesse Cook, but it has a similar feel to his kind of music. I know I could sit in front of the radio until I hear the song again and then call the radio station, but what fun is that? :)

Sorry for the pitiful clues, but I would love to find out the name of this song, and I thought it couldn't hurt to give this forum a try. Thanks!

He is known to have exremist ties in Arizona, and now goes on Telivision to lie about crime stats?

Russell Pearce Spews Bogus Crime Stats on CNN; SB 1070 Goes to Final Read Monday

The passage of the bill has given Pearce a national forum to spew bogus statistics, tinged with ethnic bias. Recently he was on CNN with Pima County Legal Defender Isabel Garcia, calling her an "anarchist," and otherwise insulting her. (You can watch the video, here.)

Twice in the show he insisted that "50 percent of the homicides committed in Phoenix are committed by illegal aliens."

Where does Pearce get this number? The Phoenix Police Department's crime stats list 168 murders as occurring in 2008. About 52 percent have been labeled "cleared," while the remainder are unsolved. So how would Pearce know that illegal aliens committed half of Phoenix's homicides, when about half of the homicides committed in Phoenix have not been cleared?

Neither the Phoenix PD's crime stats nor the FBI's crime stats publish anything to do with the immigration status of perpetrators. And yet, Pearce utters his shibboleths with impunity, even on national TV.

Is the DOJ trying to set up Sheriff Arpiao?

Sheriff Joe [Arpaio] held a sweep in NW Phoenix, Friday October 16, 2009. He had a press conference after.

US Department of Justice Officials (approximately 5) showed up at the conference, UNDERCOVER, POSING AS REPORTERS.

When contacted by a Sheriff commander, the Federal Civil Rights officials posing as journalists, conducted themselves "unprofessionally" and "refused to provide official identification.

Only one official from the "covert team provided any form of ID when pressed." That was the senior trial attorney, G. Yong Jung. She has been conducting the DOJ's investigation of the Sheriff's office re: allegations of racial profiling.

Ms. Yong Jung confirmed that those who REFUSED TO PROVIDE ID TO THE SHERIFF DEPARTMENT WERE Department of Justice Officials.

International/Interracial Adoption?

Let me start by saying that I believe children belong with their biological mothers first and foremost. If that's unable to happen children should be with extended family, a family of similar culture/heritage, and beyond that a home where they are loved and nurtured. We also want to adopt, not because it's the "right thing to do", "we prayed about it", "our church was adopting a group of orphans, so....why not?!", or "God told us to", but because I feel this at the core of my being.

My family and I are considering international adoption from Ethiopia. I have two sons and have been married for six years. We became attached to the idea of adoption after issues of infertility. I have thought about adoption from a young age. When I met my husband he was indifferent, he is now very supportive and excited. Thankfully, we were able to have two biological children. Years later we are still thinking about adoption and discussing it on a regular basis. I feel the time is near for us to make a move and would just like the opinions (negative and positive) of those who have adopted, are adopted, or just want to tell me what they think. I know a lot of people in this forum are anti-adoption, and I do value those opinions as well. I cannot begin to imagine the pain of adoptees, and don't pretend like I can ever understand. I have researched and found what I believe to be an ethical adoption agency (Hope International). If I were a mother unable to parent my child I would want my child to go to a loving and supportive home, no matter what the race or religion of the new family, as long as they were deeply and truly loved, supported and nurtured.

A few of my questions for adoptees (especially if interracial) is how did you feel growing up and strangers looking at your family wondering why you weren't the same color? How do you feel about it now?

Adopting from Ethiopia....I'm sure an adopted child will one day want to visit their homeland, want to find their family and have lots of questions. What if something like this isn't possible in a country such as Ethiopia? I'm not sure what kind of background information is given to the agency, and I hear that many children are abandoned (which throws up in huge red flag in my opinion and gives me the thought of baby buying/stealing). So to the adoptees- what if you were never able to discover your past or understand why you were adopted? How would you feel?

I'm white. My family is white. My best friend is biracial and adopted as well, also an aunt figure to my children, so I feel I would have someone close that would be understanding. However she is not Ethiopian. I wouldn't want to give a child a "white-washed" version of Ethiopian culture either. Any suggestions there? I live in the Phoenix area, and from what I've found there isn't any kind of cultural center here. I've found an Ethiopian Orthodox Church...would "white" people be welcome and embraced?

I have fears of being a adoptive mom, wondering is love really is enough (Ok, seriously, some of the posts on this site have scarred me shitless).
My family and I want this very badly, and I want to make 100% sure this is the right choice for us as well as for the adoptee. So I'd like to hear the good, the bad and the ugly (and don't personally attack me, please).

I have been enrolled in University of Phoenix for a year now and so far I have not had a say in any of the classes i take. I go online and it seems like that my supposed Academic Advisor is just picking and choosing what she feels is best

She has me enrolled in SCI/100 PARADIGMS OF HEALTH that is starting tomorrow, I have NO INTEREST in this course whatsoever, and it also requires from reading the syllbus (i have not posted anything in the forum because if you do you get charged for the class) 5 Papers over 5 weeks, 1 being a learning team assignment (we all know how that goes) and then the other 4 have to 3,000 - 4,000 words on various health topics. I am a regional manager and work over 60 hours a week, and will be on business. I dont have time to write those kinds of papers, nor did I want to take this class. I asked her to remove me from the class and place me in another, she said that "it is a required class and I have to take it"

anyone know what the requirements are for general education studies or do they just pick and choose? I feel like I have no control over the say of what I want to take and my own education.

I thought I knew the answer to this one, considering I have few Wiccan friends in real life, but I admit I only know ensey bits about Wicca from this site and my friends, and on another forum who has been a Wiccan for four years said this:

University of Phoenix Axia online classes- wondering why the text doesn't help?

I am taking classes with Axia online. I am wondering why in EVERY class, I have to look up answers on the internet. The text doesn't do CRAP to help me understand the answers to my questions, and often the information is simply NOT THERE. If anyone has any ideas on this or can tell me DUH it's there just look harder, I would appreciate it.
I have found in MANY forums students of Axia classes asking the same questions as me and in more than one class. Do the instructors do this on purpose?

For example, "According to research and news reports within the past 2 years, what are some of the changes in US policies concerning the treatment of Muslim and Arabic members of society?"

I did my own research on the internet (after not finding anything in the text) and many help forums listed that nothing exists to answer this question. I did find one article saying they were trying to pass a policy allowing the FBI to question Arabs and Muslims about terrorist stuff without needing proof any law was broken. This was NOT in the text!!!

I am looking to sell my comic book collection. I live in central Arizona and travel to the Phoenix area a little bit. The collection itself is pretty extensive (between 3000-4000) and mostly between 20 and 30 years old. The titles are mostly Marvel comics with some DC titles. I was hoping that I might find some information or suggestions as to how I might best go about selling these comics either online or in the Phoenix area.

Help finding old Harry Potter Fan Fiction?

About 4 or 5 years ago, I was introduced to the world of HP fan fiction while awaiting the release of book 6. One particular story stood out far above the rest. The name escapes me, but the author was Midnightphoenix, also known as Phoenix Tears in some circles I believe. The fic, which seemed, when I last checked it, to actually be longer than some of the books, was located on the old WB Harry Potter forums. I actually still have a link (broken now). Click Here

This fic had a vast scope, with time stoppage chapters, a trip to Azkaban,and eventually ending up in some other world altogether. There was a new love interest for Harry, Blaze something or other. I distinctly remember her because, after the fic was well underway, the sixth book revealed the original Blaze character to be male.

Anyway, after a few years of not checking for new posts, I have a sudden, intense desire to revisit, and hopefully finish, one of the greatest Potter works of all time, only to find all mention of it gone from the old boards. Surely, someone out there on yahoo answers read this delightful work too, and can help me find it once more.
Oh, and just to add, I have googled it quite thoroughly and done a few precursory searches on the fanfic sites it turns up. Nothing that way so far.
Just thought of something. I think it had something to do with the veil, not positive though. Been google searching for Veil of Darkness and Veil of Shadows, but cant find what I'm looking for. I did find the author of the story's email address from some old correspondence, though. I sent him a message, but I have no way of knowing whether he still checks it or not.
Unfortunately, Unforgettable Reasons isn't it. The fic I am looking for was novel length when I quit checking it the first time, and I know it progressed from there. I think the author actually once mentioned it to be comparable to Order of the Phoenix. Thanks for trying, though.

Circumstances have it such that I am down here in a tiny Sonoran Desert town in southern Arizona, over a hundred miles from Phoenix or Tucson, and I am looking for some constructive way to use some of my time and abilities.

I would like to create a forum where I can dialog with people who are looking for hope. Hope has saved me in desperate times and I am convinced that whoever offers the most hope, has the most authority, so I'd like to be about that business, if I can set up some kind of internet forum that can generate questions/ correspondence.

I fumble terribly with all the features online, so that's why I am writing to Answers. Could use some good suggestions and guidance on creating a means to stay busy while at the same time, be of service and find a degree of fulfillment.

Why are the mexican consulates aiding and abetting illegal aliens on their labor rights, when it is against the law for illegals to be working?

Should they not be charged for aiding and abetting?
Why are they not helping to put these illegal aliens back in their own country?

The "Semana de los Derechos Laborales," or "Labor Rights Week," will feature events in 11 of Mexico's 50 consulates in the U.S., including Atlanta, Los Angeles, San Diego, Dallas, New York, Chicago, Phoenix and Houston.

"We believe that this is an area of information that our community is in great need of," said Salvador De Lara, consul general in Atlanta. The consulate in Atlanta gets at least five to 10 complaints a week from workers whose labor rights have been violated, he said.

The most common complaints, he said, are lack of overtime pay, sums promised before a job is done that either aren't paid or get reduced once the work is done, and unsafe working conditions.

A language barrier can make it difficult for some workers to assert their rights and the situation is even more difficult for illegal immigrants because employers may threaten to report them to authorities if they complain, De Lara said.

"We're talking about a community that, in many ways, is very vulnerable," he said.

The consulates are modeling their labor rights week after the Binational Health Week organized by federal and state government agencies, community-based organizations and volunteers throughout the U.S. and Canada each October to improve the health and well-being of Latinos in the two countries through workshops, insurance referrals, and medical screenings.

Mexican consulates regularly discuss worker rights issues when workers contact them with a concern or come in to take care of other paperwork, but this initiative is the first coordinated national effort on labor rights.
During the Labor Rights Week, Aug. 31 through Sept. 4, the consulates will try to get out the word about laborer's rights through leaflets, posters, forums and other events.

After the one-week push, consular officials hope to expand the program to the rest of Mexico's consulates and to repeat the one-week concentrated effort several times a year.

De Lara bristled at a suggestion by critics that people here illegally aren't entitled to workplace protections.

"To cancel labor rights is the first step to canceling human rights," he said.

Someone asked this question on the forum and it is currently being debated. If I have a Magma Phoenix and Nantuko Husk in play and I sacrifice the Phoenix to pump Nantuko Husk, what happens?

Nantuko Husk - 2/2 black creature with the ability - Sacrifice a creature - Nantuko Husk gets +2/+2 until end of turn.

Magma Phoenix is a creature that has the ability - When Magma Phoenix is put into a graveyard from play, it deals 3 damage to each creature and player.

The debate is over whether Nantuko Husk gets the +2/+2 first and becomes a 4/4, then the Phoenix dies and does the 3 damage, or does the Phoenix do the damage first, since it was sacrificed as a cost to the ability, thus killing the 2/2 Husk before it becomes a 4/4. In what order do things resolve here? Is the +2/+2 instant since the cost (sacrifice) has to be paid, or does the Phoenix die before the ability resolves, thus doing the damage first? If you can quote the rule or section of rules where this is covered that would help as well.
Katie - That's the problem. According to the rules, the Husk's ability is an activated ability and the Phoenix's would count as a triggered ability, so they are governed by different rules. Activated abilities go on the stack as soon as they are announced, triggered abilities can be put in any order when there are 2 or more triggered abilities resolving, but since one is activated and one is triggered, I don't think you can choose the order, since the Husk's ability goes on the stack as soon as you announce intent to use it.

409.1a. The player announces that he or she is playing the spell or activated ability. If an activated ability is being played, it’s created on the stack as an object that’s not a card.

410.3. If multiple abilities have triggered since the last time a player received priority, each player, in APNAP order, puts triggered abilities he or she controls on the stack in any order he or she chooses.

See the difference?

There is a possibility Shaquille O’Neal could be in a Chicago Bulls uniform next season. In a rather surprising discovery, the Phoenix Suns and Bulls plan on engaging in trade talks that could send the future hall of fame center to Chicago, as soon as teams are allowed to talk after the playoffs. Suns GM Steve Kerr is looking to deal Shaq and is said to be interested in Loul Deng. The Suns would like to move the aging center mainly because he has slowed the up-tempo Suns down drastically. They feel Deng could bring some young, athletic energy back to the team. The Suns also feel Deng could still live up to his potential and contract if he can stay healthy.


The Bulls apparently will listen to the potential idea at the very least. However, Chicago fears that O’Neal will slow down the Bulls young, up-tempo style of play (with the Bulls already having a slow moving, aging center on the team in Brad Miller). On the other hand, the Bulls would love to get rid of Loul Deng’s huge contract, especially with the emergence of John Salmons and with their hopes to resign Ben Gordon. In addition, Shaq’s contract expires at the end of next season, freeing up even more money for 2010. The Bulls also feel Shaq could be a good influence on the young big men and could fit temporarily for one season as a low post presence. The trade would likely be O’Neal for Deng, Tim Thomas and Jerome James (assuming James exercises his player option) Look for the Suns and Bulls to at least toy around with the idea.


If those talks do not work out, the Bulls, as we all know, will likely target the Clippers Chris Kaman or Marcus Camby in exchange for Kirk Hinrich. It seems more likely that the Bulls would be interested in Camby with his contact expiring after next season. It will be interesting to see what direction the Bulls go once the off season begins, stay tuned.

I've been smoking 30 years. I live in Arizona where we just started getting Fire Safety Cigarettes.
For three weeks I was constantly getting ill, and having never heard of fire safe cigs, had no idea why. I immediately noticed my cigs (Marlboro reds) kept going out, not in a few minutes, more like every 30 seconds, Very annoying.
My dad a 50 year smoker called me one day to say his cigarettes, (Marlboro Light 100's), kept going out, and tasted awful. So I e-mailed Phillip Morris asking "What's going on"?. I googled, 'Marlboros keep burning themselves out'. I was appalled at what I saw. Web sites, blogs, and forums abounded with smokers complaining about getting sick from smoking these FSC cigarettes.
I couldn't believe our government would force a product on its citizens that were making smokers across the country sick. Didn't anyone bother too do some research on the health impact of these new 'safer' (not) cigarettes?
I immediately went to my vendor, and after searching there inventory found and bought five cartons of regular not FSC cigarettes, (labeled above the bar code). Within two days of smoking regular Marlboro's my illnesses subsided, and after a week I felt like my old self again.
Now I will have to start buying them online from companies in North Carolina, a state that still offers regular cigarettes that don't make me sick. After that I will buy them from Russia if I have too, or search out a black market, as I'm sure they will be popping up real soon.
Fire prevention agencies claim it will save 700 to 1,000 lives per year. New York Department of State did a study in New York State, a state which has mandated FSC for four years now, and found that deaths did drop from 31 deaths to 22 deaths in 2004.
Harvard School of medicine said that five compounds in the FSC cigarettes had increased in toxicity, but there was no evidence that these increases affect the already toxic nature of cigarette smoke.
OH REALLY, then why am I finding smokers all over the internet complaining they're getting sick? , I know they made me sick.
Those entities that are pushing this garbage on us didn't even have the courtesy to tell us smokers what they were doing.
These 'speed bump rings' that are incorporated into the paper, has increased amounts of a glue produced by DuPont used to adhere carpet, and is very toxic, (Adhesive ethylene vinyl acetate).
First our government unjustly targets smokers with a huge tax burden of 500% the past ten to fifteen years, now there going to poison us.
Did I mention the taste? These RSC taste terrible, another factor I’m reading from smokers across the country online. The amber or (cherry) at the end of the cigarette doesn't burn the same and allows too much air to mix with the smoke, and you can't get enough taste. So you end up drawing on them repeatedly trying to get a good full drag. You end up with uneven burning and ambers falling all over the place. Seems to me this is going to cause 'More Fire Hazard'. Also the constant relighting causes the paper to ignite into a real flame, and has even blown up in my face, and I only smoked a few packs of them.
New York States 2004 study claims nine lives were saved. Nation wide that would be 450 lives per year, less than the number of people a 'month' who die from tripping and falling down. But it's okay to make thousands of smokers’ nationwide sick. How many smokers a year will die now from the higher toxicity in the paper, only time will tell…
If we allow these non smoking advocates to 'dictate' what we consume, were will it end?
There's still as many non smokers dying each year of lung cancer and heart disease as smokers, considering the high levels of pollution in our cities nationwide. Maybe next they'll blame smokers for that too.

I found this on a forum in WWE Universe and i found it to be interesting.

I believe that is the problem with the WWE is a most of the divas lack their own wrestling style except for Beth Phoenix, Natayla, Jillian, Mickie James, Gail Kim and Melina (they are trained to watered their true skills down)

most of them are trained the WWE style or WWE homegrown which is one the reasons why watching a divas match is so boring.They lack their own flair and look like robots in the ring. it's like you see them once you see it all which makes their wrestling very predictable.

One of the reasons why the Golden Diva Era was so successful was that majority of the women except for Trish Stratus came from different promotions and had their own style. For example Lita was trained in Mexico, Ivory trained at GLOW, Jacqueline came from USWA, Molly Holly went to Dean Malenko's school.

Most of these divas did not train in different promotions outside of WWE whereas the best wrestlers came from different promotions like Beth Phoenix and Natayla are alumni of Shimmer Women Wrestling, Mickie James came from KYDA, Melina Perez trained at Jesse Hernandez's School of Hard Knocks, Jillian started out in different indie circuits.

The salary cap is to be $58 million. Is it unfair to other teams that these teams go out and spend so much money while the others are trying to honor the leagues requirements?

I mean if that is the case, maybe the Spurs and Hornets should go out and recruit Wade, Bosh or LBJ if majority of the teams are not abiding by the leagues rules.

I have also on this forum that some people would like to raise the Salary cap. If its raised, then the superstars are going to want more money...so it breaks even.

DirectDraw, Direct3D and AGP Texture acceleration cannot be enabled. Help very much appreciated.?

Today I tried to start Spore and many other games on my computer as well but it said they couldn't work since their graphics can't be supported or that I didn't have directx 9.oc. So I got directx and it still didn't work.

I went online searching the forums for answers.

Here are the methods that I've tried to fix the problem:-
- Rebooting my computer
- Reinstalling directx
- Opening Device Manager to check if I have any missing drivers.
- Running DXDIAG then clicking on the display tab and enabling directdraw, direct3D etc..

That's when I realized that I had missing a video controller and that directdraw, direct 3D most probably won't run without them. (I'm only assuming this, if you think I'm wrong let me know)

The problem now is, I don't know which video controller to get based on the devices my computer runs on. If it helps I'll give out my computer's profile below.

Did u get turned down a lot for not having a degree from a traditional college? What did u earn ur degree in and what are you doing now?

Ok, the resaon i ask is because my mother just started taking classes (actual classes in a building) through the University of Phoenix recently at one of their campuses near our home. She is persuing a degree in medical records/ medical billing. Now, after reading different forums on people criticizing the school and talking about how bad it is, I am a bit concerned that my mother may be making a bad choice by going to the University of Phoenix. She got laid off from an office job that she was at for 12 years just a few months ago, and in looking for a new job she realized that she needed a degree to work anywhere, so that prompted her to start taking classes thru UoP. She is a grown woman about 50.

Is she making a mistake? I am just woried because shes excited about taking classes there and I really dont want her to be dissapointed if she cant get a job after she graduates from there. Please Tell me your experiences! Thanks in advance!

Now what should i do and how could i upgrade my firmware version from v11.0.045 to v20.0.056??

Can't call nokia.they will tell me to use the pcsuite which wont upgrade cuz it is not supported for Egypt any later firmware version than v11.0.045

Is this a bit unfair or am I just over reacting?

I attend college online, it's my first time doing college courses online, I did some high school classes from Primavera before, pretty cool. I go to the University of Phoenix online. The teachers have to have masters degrees at least, and it says in the area they are teaching, but only one of my teachers has a masters in psych (what I'm going for) and the other has a masters in education or teaching or something. So there are about 20 or less people who are in my classes, but it seems like the teacher isn't always being accurate with the grading and participation and when I asked her about it she told me it was all my fault. The most recent situation was that I posted my homework to my forum, well apparently on there very rarely your attatchment (homework) won't post along with the actual post. I usually check mine but I must have been in a hurry or saw it and didn't notice. Two days later my teacher said it was late and I found my post which had the assignment title and everything but the attatchment wasn't there. I explained to her what happened and she said, "as adult learners we should be able to check our posts." She acted like I just submitted a blank homework (Ex. you didn't do your homework, but you still hand in a piece of paper with your name and the assignment on it. Who would do that? What would be the point?) I told her why would I just post that but not put the homework on there if I didn't finish it? She didn't care so I got docked points and now my grade is like a C. I don't think that it was very fair. I would understand if I didn't turn it in on time because I didn't do it, but I DID do it, and to my knowledge and according to the post it was in on time, it just didn't attatch, which is not my fault it is the Univ. of Phx's fault for having bugs in their system.

Sims 2 Double Deluxe problems. Please help.?

I have searched high and low for a fix on my own to no avail. I have the Sims 2 Double Deluxe with Nightlife Expansion and Open for Business. I have had no problems until 3 days ago. I have updated my driver to the latest and also my DirectX has been updated. After a few minutes of gameplay I get an error message of D3DERR NOT AVAILABLE Direct 3D returned an error and must terminate.

I have been over everything from forums to chat rooms and have tried every suggestion I have found multiple times now. I have unistalled and reinstalled multiple times and I keep getting the 3D error or restarts the coputer or walls and all sims disappear. Sometimes I can play for 2 hours other times only 5 minutes. I'm about to cry.
I also have Castaway Stories and Life Stories and play them with no problems.
I have decreased the graphics and all and cant even play. Walls and Sims keep disappearing and my cursor sticks. GRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!! I want to play this game.

On craigslist, I am selling my itouch. This guy emailed me claiming he lived in Phoenix in the US. We agreed on $190 and the payment would be through paypal. I got an email from "paypal" saying that the money will be credited to my account after I provide the tracking number. A day later I got an email from the paypal email address. It looked so fake! I got suspicious so I copied the email and pasted it to a google search. I found the same email scams! Today, he told me he is from Nigeria and I would have to ship it to a new address. Who do I contact for paypal fraud?

I've trawled the internet and forum sites but can only find places selling silkworm eggs and fruit beetle larvae (does anyone know the nutritional value of these as that's something else I can't seem to find!).
