Prescott/Prescott Valley mid-20s scene? Considering a move?
I want out of the wet Pacific NW (Portland area), and am looking at the Prescott/Prescott Valley area. From what I've been able to find on the internet…the weather sounds good to me, I like that it's Western-y and not exclusively stucco buildings, I like that it's not a tiny town and not huge, I like that it's in driving distance of Phoenix and Flagstaff. It looks like a beautiful area and there's a lot to do outside. But…it sounds like Prescott is kind of a retirement town and people seem to think there's not much to do in the area. It sounds like Prescott Valley is a somewhat younger crowd, but what does that mean? Is it mostly 30s folks with kids? I'm mid-20s, single, college grad, etc. and while I don't need a ton of things to do/major nightlife (I'm fine with a fairly small town), I need to know that there will be enough people in my demographic to meet, befriend, date, hang out with, etc.
Any info would be great!

Supporters outraged over Sheriff Joe Arpaio arrests of illegal aliens racial profiling /SB 1070?
MARICOPA COUNTY - Maricopa County Sheriff's deputies Tuesday morning served search warrants on Valley View Building Services Inc., 2402 S. 19th Street in Phoenix, looking for 25 suspects of identity theft.Sheriff Joe Arpaio reports that detectives became aware of information through sources that the local business was contracted to conduct the cleanup of newly constructed buildings at the U.S. Military's Fort Huachuca in Sierra Vista, Arizona.
After a three month investigation, detectives believe that there are as many as 25 suspects working at the business with false identification and are suspected of being in the country illegally.
Sheriff Arpaio says, "I have deep concerns that people who come into our country illegally have managed to gain access onto an active U.S. Military installation. This cause for concern goes well beyond the argument that people are only committing the crime of wanting to work in this country."
A total of five suspects were arrested during Tuesday morning's search warrant. Three of the five were targets of the investigation. A U.S. citizen was arrested for an outstanding warrant and one employee was turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement for being suspected of being in the country illegally but was not a target of the investigation.
Sheriff's deputies are continuing their search for the remaining suspects at other off site work locations and will continue their investigation of Valley View Building Services Inc.
This investigation marks the 37th investigation where sheriff's deputies have gone into business establishments and arrested over 400 employees. Of those employees arrested, 278 were suspected of identity theft, fraud, and were also illegal immigrants.

How can i make this paper better?
Hi, i was wondering if you would be willing to help proofread/rearrange my paper to make it better? ThanksThroughout history, one thing that always manages to catch my eye is the design theme of each society. I find it very interesting how if you jump from society to society you can see a distinct different in their architectural design. Naturally, when I was flipping through chapters 8-13 I noticed the different architectural designs and decided that I had to comment on the uniqueness of each style of architecture.
Starting with Islamic mosques, the first thing I noticed were the arches. The Islamic used several types of arches. These types included the horseshoe, pointed and muqarnas arch. The muqarnas arch were unique to Islam and builders started using this design more and more as the designs became more beautiful to look at. Mosques were also laid out in several different ways, one of which is called a centrally planned mosque which were influenced by Byzantine churches. This design included large open spaces without support beams capped with a dome overhead. Overall I would have to say Islamic architecture is very pretty, especially when there’s a dome on top. To me it seems like the dome caps off the whole structure based on the The Great Mosque on page 290.
When we move on to architecture of South and Southeast Asian before 1200, we see a total different style compared to the Islamic architecture. At first glance, I was in awe looking at the pictures in the book of these structures, partically the one on page 321 of the East Torana of the Great Stupa at Sanchi. I was most impressed by the attention to detail on the carvings on the gate. Overall South and Southeast Asian architecture is so different and unique compared to any of the other type of architecture I have seen in this book to date. Another great example is the Rajarajeshvara Temple to Shiva on page 335. Just looking at the temple I’m amazed especially when I look at the size of the people entering on the stairs; it just attests to the sure size of the temple. Temples like these usually have a capstone on top. It was also common for architecture from this time to include a dome or towers called shikharas and vimanas.
Chinese and Korean art before 1279 is very interesting. It consists of many different themes depending on what part of asia it was located in. In Indian they had stupas, which were building outwards with massive tops as a top piece. When we move on to architecture from central asia, china, northwestern china and japan we can notice that the new theme is to built upwards. Central asian stupas were build with domes over the top like the stupas in Indian. Watchtoweers in china were build exteremly skinny and tall. Stone pagodas or northewestern china were build with 3 teirs while wooden pagodas of japan were built with many levels.
Japanese architecture before 1392 is absolutely amazing to look at. Phoenix Hall on p. 384 is an great example of this. Its built next to the water with vast openings and huge rooftops. Their design themes were influenced by the early Koreans and Chineses. Usually buildings would be built next to each other to form a complex. Each complex typically included the pagoda, main and lecture hall, bell tower, repository for sutras, dormitory and dining hall. Most of the worshiping would happen in the main hall while the lecture hall was used at study areas. One thing that I read online while researching Japanese architecture was how the Shinto rebuilt building around every 20 years with an exact replica of what was built before. I was curious to why they would do this but found no answers in my additional research. I think it might have been just to keep buildings nice and refreshed although I’m not sure if the time to rebuild the building would be worth the reward.
The architecture of the Americas before 1300 was very different depending on the location. My favorite piece of architecture would be the Temple of the Feathered Serpent on page 401. What I really like about this is the choice of design for the outside. It’s so unique and interesting to look at. Whenever I stare at this piece I always wonder what the designer was thinking about when he chose this design. A big society of the Americas before 1300 was the Mayan. The Mayan built many different structures but they all have a few things in common. Most Maya building consists of steps, their usually very wide and steep. For temples there usually are two chambers inside the buildings, one behind the other.
As far as architecture of ancient Africa there are not many examples in the book. One of the few examples can be found on page 434 which shows the Great Friday Mosque. At first I had to do a double take because I didn’t believe this was real. The whole design with the sticks pointing out of it and all the points on the tops of the walls make this mosque look like something I’d build on the beach.

Do you see any problems here Fleeing Phoenix for fear of immigration law?
Reporting from Phoenix — Every time a customer buys some of the large fabric tote bags from the Dollar Store at 43rd Avenue and Thomas Road, Najmuddin Katchi sees another piece of his business vanish. The purchase of the briefcase-sized shoulder bags means that another one of Katchi's customers, mostly Latino immigrants, is packing to leave the state before what is touted as the nation's toughest law against illegal immigrants takes effect July 29.
Katchi's store isn't the only business suffering. The vast shopping center that holds his small shop is almost empty. The Food City supermarket closed this spring. Then the furniture shop. Then the pizzeria.
The giant apartment complex across the street, once brimming with tenants, is two-thirds vacant. Katchi is behind on his rent.
"The business is broken," said Katchi, who has operated his shop at this intersection for 14 years. "After the 29th of July, what happens? Maybe I have to close the store."
For the last 20 years, Arizona has been one of the fastest-growing states in the nation. It depends on an expanding population to power its economy, which relies heavily on the construction of new houses.
At the corner of 43rd and Thomas, it's hard to determine how much of the neighborhood's woes stem from Arizona's immigration laws and how much from the state's economy, battered by a once red-hot housing marked that cooled. Katchi's revenues were already sagging before April 23, when Gov. Jan Brewer signed SB 1070 into law. Since then, sales have plummeted.
In adopting the legislation the state embarked on a grand experiment — trying to drive out hundreds of thousands of its residents by what the law calls "attrition through enforcement."
The law requires police to check the immigration status of people they lawfully stop and also suspect are in the country illegally. Civil rights groups and the Obama administration have sued to stop the law from taking effect, and a federal judge heard arguments in the case Thursday.
The departure of illegal immigrants, proponents of SB 1070 argue, can only help Arizona's economy.
"As long as there are legal Arizona residents scrambling for jobs, a slow, steady attrition of low-wage, government-educated illegal aliens is a beneficial facet of the law," said Bob Dane, a spokesman for the Federation for American Immigration Reform in Washington, D.C., which argues for stricter immigration standards and estimates that illegal immigrants cost Arizona taxpayers $2.5 billion annually.
But it's hard to get solid data on illegal immigrants and the economy.
A 2007 report from the Congressional Budget Office that reviewed 29 studies — but not ones from advocacy groups like FAIR — found that illegal immigrants place a "modest" burden on state budgets.
Even people whose families use more government services than they pay in taxes still help the economy, said Judith Gans of the University of Arizona's Udall Center for Studies in Public Policy. In a 2008 study, she found that Arizona immigrants contribute $29 billion annually to the state economy, representing about 8% of its activity.
When immigrants leave, Gans said, "stores experience dramatic drops in sales. Apartment owners who rent to immigrants have high vacancy rates and risk losing their buildings. Legal workers or renters or consumers don't generally step in quickly enough to prevent these businesses from experiencing real additional hardship."

Ever feel miserable in the summer?(LONG, read it. If you think its long, you have no patience)?
Okay, so I know I post here a lot but...I'm just miserable. So I'm 17, and pretty much a rocker/goth mixed kind of person..I love heavy metal, and stuff like Rob Zombie..Real trashy stuff..I love Micheal Myers, and I STILL think he is the most classic of all killers, despite what Jason fans think. From that statement, maybe you can tell I'm a total horror fanatic. The people I've lived with though..For..16 years? Yeah...They don't like that stuff..And although this is a big city, pretty much everyone hates me for that..These kids are into rap, pot, drugs, getting wasted..Jonas Brothers, Justin Beiber, bless the fall, all the crappy modern day electronic rock that they have now..
You'd think they'd be diverse, considering that it wants to be the biggest city in the US...No, not really..I'm the only one that stands out, aside from a few punks that come to live here. I get along with them, but..Our friendship ends because they leave this place in less then a damn month.
Sure, I've always hated this place and I've always been bullied but..I always thought it was me with the problem..Even though my psychologists keep telling me that I'm perfectly normal along with my friends, and my family.
Lately, I got out of a long depression, thank god for that! So I don't have a problem anymore..But now, I'm kind of beginning to realize that everyones right..That I do need new scenery. This place is starting to get to me really bad..
It was never a problem before summer because I just daydreamed and did school work..But now that I'm up all day and all night, I can't daydream for that long..So then I begin to wish desperately that my dreams would come true..
It's like a 9 inch nails being drilled through my skull! I feel so miserable.. When I daydream, I envision me, in my typical band T's, lounging on a couch playing my 360, hanging out with a skinny but hot punk girl with dyed purple in her hair.. I daydream of actually singing on stage like Rob Zombie..I just want this..lifestyle, you know? Of music, of friends..Of...What? Metal? I don't know!
..And then my conscience wakes me up saying "And that is why people fear you, and hate you"
I said I'm a mix earlier because..I'm not hardcore at all! I'm gentle, you know? I'm friendly..So I'm not like a punk or rocker or anything..
Point is..I'm going f***king ballistic. I'm sick of the same people, the same stupid torn apart buildings, the same goddamn desert. I gotta get out of here..They've all said that this is where my depression comes from...I kinda believe them now. This place is getting to me. I could usually escape by daydreaming but now? No..It's too long..My only friends are people online. I have real friends, but...They're just like everyone else. "HEY DUDE< CHECK OUT THAT CHICK WITH REALLY HUGE BOOBS"
I GOTTA GET THE F***K OUT OF HERE!!!
A vacation at the end of July. A degree, my parents have a degree..They're trying to find a job in Washington, or Montana, or Oregon..Anywhere. They hate Phoenix too! BUT THEY HAVE TO HURRY UP!!!!
I need help..Something to occupy my time with..I've tried...Things already. But I'm sore.
I need to do something now..Something to entrain myself. My friends are too busy.
Taking deep breaths..
And I'm a boy, incase you can't tell (Have no idea how some of you cant tell)

What is your reaction to Undocumented couple leave SB 1070 behind?
A white Ford pickup with Arizona plates is driving north on U.S. 191 headed for the Utah border. Afraid of encountering police, the family inside is traveling at night. The pickup's headlights cut through a sea of darkness. The family is in a hurry to get out of Arizona, to get away from the state's harsh new immigration law.
The pickup crosses into Utah at 11:59 p.m. Luis Sanchez breathes a sigh of relief as his wife, Marlen Ramirez, keeps driving. Both are undocumented immigrants from Mexico.
"Look," he says. "We are here. We have arrived in Utah."
They have made it safely out of Arizona, past the Maricopa County sheriff's deputy they saw as they were leaving Surprise and past the highway patrol cars they saw along Interstate 17 between Phoenix and Flagstaff.
They still have a long way to their final destination: Pennsylvania. There will be engine troubles along the way. And more police. And frayed nerves.
But the hardest part of the nearly 2,700-mile journey will be the end. Their final destination is where starting their lives over begins.
Feeling like prisoners
Luis and Marlen, both 33, lived in Arizona for more than 15 years. They are from the same small town, Xaltianguis, in southern Mexico, but they met while living at the same West Valley apartment complex.
Luis was 17 when he crossed the border illegally near Douglas. Marlen was 16 when she jumped a fence near Nogales. Both came looking for work.
Their three children are U.S. citizens because they were born in Arizona. The oldest, Luis Jr., is a quiet 13-year-old. Vanessa, 10, wears glasses and loves to talk. The baby, Christian, is 2.
Lawyers have told Luis and Marlen that they do not qualify for legal residency.
Luis has washed dishes at a restaurant on Grand Avenue, at a retirement home in Peoria and at a restaurant in Sun City West. For the past four years, he worked as a landscaper for a company that maintains office buildings in the West Valley. He earned $9.80 an hour. Marlen is a stay-at-home mom.
Luis got his jobs using fake papers. He has managed to keep working despite the recession and Arizona's employer-sanctions law, which have made it much harder for illegal immigrants to get jobs.
The couple started thinking about leaving Arizona when Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio began conducting his crime sweeps two years ago, saturating largely Latino neighborhoods with deputies, stopping vehicles for minor traffic violations and arresting illegal immigrants. The couple said the sweeps made them feel like prisoners. They used to enjoy spending Sundays at the park. But to avoid the police, they started staying home as much as possible.
The day after Gov. Jan Brewer signed Arizona's new immigration law on April 23, Luis and Marlen decided to leave.
They are not alone.
Hundreds, perhaps thousands, of families have fled Arizona, abandoning homes and apartments in already struggling neighborhoods. Many more are planning to leave. Some have returned to Mexico. Many are relocating to neighboring states, many of which may soon try to adopt laws similar to Arizona's.
Luis and Marlen picked Pennsylvania. They have relatives there who say there is plenty of work.

Could I do a senior prank?
My senior year in high school is coming up quickly and I want to do a senior prank. The problem is doing it. We live in the Valley of the Sun (Arizona Phoenix Metropolitan Area, basically) so there is a lot of minor crime (vandalism, underage drinking, shoplifting, etc). Not much violence, but they are worried...School is like a fortress. We have anti-scaling fences surrounding it (the ones with edges pointing out from the school- and they are slightly sharp and 8 feet tall). And, as if anticipating people getting in despite it, they lock down the school. There are 8 buildings, and the hallways are nonexistent- sidewalks are outside to go from class to class. Each building has only 2-3 entrances, and those are impossible to get into. Three inches of steel, bullet-proof windows, and has one of the heaviest-duty locks I've ever seen. There are no normal handles, it's all a flat handle you pull out to get in- no way to remove the handle and no way into the lock outside. They also lock every classroom, office, and bathroom door (all of which are just the same as the outside ones, but a few are oak wood and very thick). They have cameras watching all angles of the school. I could probably get in (XMA, MA, traceur and little tricking on the side), and not get caught, but I would never make it in the buildings- especially hauling friends over to help out. I wouldn't vandalize them or anything, but that makes the ability to pull of an interesting senior prank impossible- unlike these videos on YouTube and such, my school has more protection than their's do. And I can't pull a prank during school hours that's worth noting, as we have security all over the campus and I wouldn't get away without having to own up (if at night, I could just screw with the desks and such with no remorse, but there's nothing I could do during the day). Plus this time of year, every year, the security tightens in case of pranks. If caught doing something even remotely serious, they could arrest you. IE 1,2,4 pig joke? Someone tried it 3 years ago and got fined $700 for animal abuse. Etc.
How can I pull off a good prank in a place like this? And not a violent or vandalist kind, just some innocent funny thing. And preferrably not go to jail or be fined. Most dangerous thing I'd do is remove some screws from teacher's chairs and such (desks are welded into the chairs for students- all one solid piece).
And any ideas what kind of prank I could pull?
a) I'm not a Senior. I'm a Junior. Preplanning lol
b) Mature? Yes. Fun? No. I'm not immature, but I can still have fun dude. Screwing around occasionally isn't a sign of immaturity. Talk to college dudes getting drunk every other night about maturity. I'm just playing a joke.

Your opinion these arrests?
Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio's deputies have arrested 17 people at a work-site raid at a business park in west Phoenix. The deputies began their search for 35 people who are suspected of identity theft at about 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the business near 48th Avenue and Van Buren Street. By about 10:15 a.m., 17 arrests had been made, Joe Arpaio said.
Arpaio said all of the employees were lined up inside the building and being asked for their identification.
Most of the people arrested were suspected of using false identification, Arpaio said. At least one person, however, was expected to be turned over to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The business, Laser Masters, sells printer cartridges and toner.
Relatives of those who worked at the company stood outside of the building. Josefina Almanzar, who saw her husband Michael, 30, enter the sheriff's arrest bus in handcuffs, began to scream and cry.
Almanzar said she was in the country legally, but would not comment on her husband's status. "They're just here to work," Almanzar said. "They're not here to steal."
Almanzar said she was worried that her whole family might have to move, but she is hopeful that her husband will not be deported. She said he has worked at the company for a while recycling cartridges.
Almanzar's mother and friend tried to comfort her as she cried and yelled at the sheriff, calling him a coward. Her mother, Rosa Valencia, said her nephew worked in the building as well.
This is the Sheriff's Office's 32nd investigation into workplaces, Arpaio said. It began after a tip came into Arpaio's immigration hotline about 6 months ago.
Deputies remained on the site throughout the morning, and more arrests were expected. Deputies were searching two of the company's buildings, an office and a warehouse.

There, judges, police officers and others are targeted by the Mexican drug cartels and abductions are as common as graffiti-marked buildings. But the kidnapping problem has spilled over to the United States, specifically to Phoenix, Arizona. America’s fifth largest city, Phoenix has a population of 1.6 million people, and covers an area of 517 square miles (larger than Los Angeles). The threat is ever-present on Phoenix streets – and has been since 2005 when the metro area gained the dubious distinction of America’s kidnapping capital. With its numbers right behind Mexico, Phoenix is the number two kidnapping capital of the world.
Numbers Tell the Story
The kidnapping problem in Phoenix, however, as widely reported by various news agencies in the past year, involves victims who are either illegal aliens or connected to the drug trade. Some officials have commented that all the Phoenix kidnappings are connected to illegal immigration but that the actual numbers (359 in 2007, a 10-year high, 366 in 2008, and 302 for the first 11 months of 2009) account for just one-third of the reported kidnappings taking place in the metropolitan area. People are just not reporting all the kidnappings.
The situation has gotten so bad that the fear is anyone who looks like they have money is in danger of being kidnapped. According to news stories, ransoms have ranged from $30,000 to $1 million. Some have even included demands for large drug loads. An L.A. Times story in February 2009 quoted Phoenix police saying that most every victim and suspect is connected to the drug smuggling world, usually tracing back to the Mexican state of Sinaloa.

This is breaking news Janet Napolitano Lied, Rob Krentz Died?
Rancher Rob Krentz spent his life working on his 35,000-acre cattle ranch by the border with Mexico in Cochise County, Ariz. His family had owned the ranch since 1907.He died there last weekend, he and his dog shot by an illegal alien that he was trying to help.
The Arizona Cattle Growers’ Association immediately posted a $15,000 reward.
The Monday before Rob Krentz was killed, Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano, a former Arizona governor, made a speech claiming “significant progress” in controlling violence along the border. It was a lie. In 1999, Rob and his wife Sue, in an interview on PBS, described the Muslim prayer rugs and a Koran they had found on the ranch property. They recounted the time illegals broke into and burglarized their home. Yet Rob said he still shared water with thirsty illegals crossing his ranch.
Rob was like that. Neighbor Roger Barkett also runs cattle on his 22,000-acre ranch nearby and recalls Rob as a gentle, caring man who loved his animals, and, while opposing illegal immigration, had compassion for the illegals who crossed his land.
Ranchers in this remote area of the U.S.-Mexican border are few and far between, but they still maintain the Old West courtesies and respect for hard work and self reliance. But after 2000, the isolation turned the area into a favorite crossing for smugglers from the South. The smugglers are bold and well armed. They steal vehicles, invade ranch houses, trash the countryside, set fires, and bring all manner of contraband into the U.S.
Ranch buildings that had been unlocked for generations were locked. Ranchers herding cattle went armed for the first time in 100 years.
Repeated appeals to the state and federal government to do something to protect the area fell on deaf ears. Local Border Patrol Agents got a handle on the smugglers six years ago, but were pulled back by President Bush. A promised border fence was never built.
Today, a new lawlessness has spread in the area. The Minutemen, organized as a "neighborhood watch" on the border five years ago, recently disbanded citing increased violence from the smugglers. Incursions into the U.S. by what appears to be Mexican Army personnel protecting drug smugglers have become frequent.
Mexican drug cartels, emboldened by the Mexican Army failure to control its border cities, and more recently emboldened by Obama's talk of a new amnesty for illegals, have extended their reach into the U.S.
Phoenix has become the kidnap capitol of the U.S. as gangs battle for drug markets. Rival gangs affiliated with the Mexican cartels control the drug trade in over 300 American cities and towns, according to the FBI. A teenager in a remote Maine town died last month of a heroin overdose supplied by her Mexican connection. Los Angeles officials confirm that extensive marijuana plantations have been established in public parks and forest lands around the city.
After the murder of Rob Krentz, Arizona Republican Gov. Jan Brewer this week called on the President to heed her call (and that of the governors of New Mexico, California, and Texas) to place National Guard troops on the border to restore order. Arizonans were quick to point out that the governor could call out the Arizona Guard herself. What’s she waiting for?
Texas Republican Gov. Rick Perry faced similar calls for action when U.S. consular employees were gunned down two weeks ago in the streets of Juarez, Mexico, across the bridge from El Paso, Texas. What’s he waiting for?
Democratic Gov. Bill Richardson of New Mexico is not waiting for Obama. He’s ordered state law enforcement to the Mexico-New Mexico border
Amnesty champion Arizona Sen. John McCain, facing a formidable challenge in the Republican primary from former congressman and border security advocate J.D. Hayworth, also called on President Obama to call out the National Guard and control the border.
Is all this outrage from politicians just more of the same blather we hear everytime some outrage occurs along the border? Or will Rob Krentz’ murder finally spark the public firestorm that will bring security to our border with Mexico.

Mexican consulates on American soil are famous for vigorously intervening on behalf of their illegal alien citizens — lobbying to get them driver’s licenses, bank accounts, and healthcare, for example, and rushing to defend illegal alien border-crossers arrested in reckless and drunk-driving cases and sweeps.

∙$1.6 million to computerize hospital records in Oakland
∙$47 million for anti-drug training centers around the country
∙$20 million for the World War II Museum in Louisiana
∙$3.9 million grant to develop an energy-efficient solar film for buildings
∙$800,000 for minority prostate cancer research
∙$3.6 million for marijuana eradication in Kentucky
∙$2.4 million for handicap access and a sprinkler system at a community club in New York
Lawmakers also added $5 billion for two destroyers, 10 C-17 cargo planes and to develop a jet engine the Pentagon neither wants nor needs. Critics call it classic pork -- projects that may save jobs, but not money.
"There is a reason they are added to the Defense appropriations bill, because everyone in Congress knows this is a must-pass piece of legislation", said Todd Harrison, a budget studies fellow at the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments.
Despite the billions in pork, the White House says it's making progress. The earmarking total is 14 percent lower than it was on last year's defense bill, and the Obama administration says federal agencies found more than $19 billion in contract savings for 2010. The president has also succeeded in killing funding for the pricy F-22 Joint Strike Fighter and a new presidential helicopter.
Members of Congress are also defending their earmarks. Senator John Kerry, D-Mass., who added the Ted Kennedy Institute to the defense budget, says it is a tribute to the late Senator's leadership on military technology and safety for our troops.
Senator Mary Landrieu, D-La., says she was "proud" to secure $20 million for a new wing of the National World War II museum in her home state.
But a study by the Center of Defense Information says earmarks like those in this bill -- including those for the solar film, prostate cancer research, and the New York sprinkler system -- mean less money for pilot training, supplies, repairs and ammunition.
Harrison is especially disappointed Congress cut $300 million from a successful counterinsurgency program used by Army field commanders.
"That money is used by commanders on ground in Iraq and Afghanistan to fund small projects that help win over the local population," he said.
I know that you liberals are watching this! Go ahead and answer my question! Oh, that's right, you only do personal attacks when confronted with facts.

Little boy, murder, Jesus, and drowning.. I think that you'll have fun with this.?
The first dream I had was posted on a different site but I didn't get any replies so I decided to post it on here.1. My friend and I rented an apartment in Phoenix, Arizona. I know that the buildings looked like houses and there was a huge wall in the front, sort of like a skate ramp. And I know we were doing something important but I just can't remember it now. So anyways, the next night I dreamt that we were in the same apartment only this time, I had a little boy with me. He was seriously, the most beautiful child I'd ever seen with very blonde hair and huge, deep blue eyes. This bothered me because I never, ever remember faces of people I don't know in my dreams and I can still picture him now. I know we were trying to protect him from something or someone and he was sitting in a wicker basket. I can't remember his clothes, just his face, hair and his small hands griping onto the edge of the basket. The boy was around six years old and that's about all I can remember. The night after that, I dreamt of the same little boy but it was just me and him, sitting in the apartment talking. I don't remember the conversation though...
This second dream, I had about two or three nights ago.
2. I was in a broken down carnival site and it was probably around midnight. The colors were browns, blacks, deep reds. I remember seeing a line of people walking towards a huge face, most of them looked homeless (though they probably weren't). Then the "camera" zoomed down and I saw three kids whispering to eatch other. Next thing I know they all jump into a puddle by my feet and start to drown themselves. The "camera then zooms down again and I'm under the water watching the kids. They jump out but I stay in and I see a detective talking to another and pointing at something. They walk away and I'm out of the water. Now I'm first in line at the big face and the guy is asking us to give him something of value or he'll kill us. All I had was a card with Jesus on it. It looked like a baseball card except it was shiny and had no words. The man got mad and pulled out his gun but Jesus jumped out of the card and then I woke up.
haha, am I just a crazy dreamer or do these dreams mean anything?
oh and I have another little one for you:
I dreamt that I was 6 weeks pregnant along with two other friends (one of which is actually pregnant in real life). Then I got in the shower and the baby bump was gone but I wasn't fazed..

Help me name a new building for a nonprofit... playing on a phoenix rising from the ashes?
We are a nonprofit serving homeless neighbors in need that has outgrown its current facilities. In the past 25 years we've fine-tuned the "one-stop" model of rehabilitation for adults and children experiencing homelessness in San Diego. Continuing our commitment to outstanding service, we have designed a "three building in one" solutions to better meet the needs of those we serve. The new structure will be efficiently designed to allow us to address three specific areas of need: a child development center, long-term transitional housing, and permanent affordable housing. We are NOT a short term, over night homeless shelter, but a nonprofit that embraces our neighbors who search for change... we provide a hand up, not a hand out. We have 900 men, women and children living in our buildings that are reaching for success through our various vocational programs, medical services, rehabilitation programs, etc. We have a high success rate of over 80% staying off the streets for more than 5 years.
With all this in mind... we would like to name our new building. We are thinking along the lines of a phoenix rising from the ashes. We do not want to name it the phoenix center because we do not want to be mixed up with the well known "Phoenix Center" rehab program.

MIN, NSH, STL, ANA: Who's In, Who's Out?
Taken from NHL.com"Still to be decided:
Anaheim (88 points) last played Sunday and has spent four days watching other teams get points. The Ducks finally hit the ice again Friday night, when Dallas comes to the Honda Center, then finish Saturday at Phoenix. Anaheim is seventh, ahead of St. Louis and Nashville, because it has won two more games than the Blues and played fewer games than the Predators.
St. Louis (88 points) has been off since Tuesday's 5-1 win at Phoenix, which put them into eighth place -- they've played one fewer game than Nashville. The Blues host Columbus on Friday and finish the season Sunday at Colorado, the last-place team in the West.
Nashville (88 points after a 4-3 shootout win at Detroit) stayed alive with a gritty, come-from-behind win in one of the NHL's toughest buildings. The Predators are the first team in the League to finish their season, and must win Friday at Minnesota -- then hope St. Louis and/or Anaheim cooperate.
Minnesota (85 points) is alive -- but barely. The Wild have to win both of their remaining games -- at home Friday against Nashville and Saturday at Columbus -- and hope for losses by the teams in front of them."
...i think the season will end like this.

Moving from Chicago to LA -- which neighborhood, and am I crazy?
Hey, so I live in Chicago -- I came here after college because at the time I was a dirt-poor, struggling freelance writer so it was the only big city I could afford. I'm doing much better now, but I've become somewhat bored. The brutal winter weather is wearing on me, and I'm itching for a radical change of scenery. My job allows me to live anywhere I want, so I'm thinking of finding a new city to settle in for a few years, and I'm thinking LA (alternative probably being New York). But I thought I'd pop in here and see if I can get a third-party sanity check on the idea! And some advice on where to live in the city if I do go this route.
Reasons for LA: And I'd like to develop friendships with fellow creative types, who aren't quite so common in Chicago (more of an academia sort of community for people in their 20s here). Also, my parents retired in Phoenix, and it would be good to live much closer to them.
Finally, I'm a writer and producer in new media. I would like to make some connections with people in the video production end of that industry, beyond the editorial and technical connections I already have, with the aim to start a web network that features video content alongside the kind of stuff I already do. So I'd want to be near the sorts of people who produce that sort of stuff to possibly work with them or contract them.
I've only been to Los Angeles very briefly, about eight years ago, and it was a very touristy visit. Never saw the real city at all, so I'm not entirely sure what to expect. Spent time in San Francisco and San Diego though -- disliked the former, the latter was nice but a little boring. I've done a lot of reading about LA, and people mostly just seem to complain about how horrible the traffic is for commuting, but I work from home so that doesn't bother me so much.
I don't need a lot of space, but I'm done living in slum/ghetto-type dumps with run-down buildings and loud neighbors. 1BR would be ideal but I would rather live in a studio in a nice, culturally exciting neighborhood than a 1BR in a mediocre one. I make just over 50k right now. I could spend as much as $1,500/month, but would prefer to keep it closer to $1,000.
What are my options, as far as neighborhoods go? I've read about a few of them but the city is so vast I can't possibly understand everything about them all. So far Studio City sounds like the optimal balance -- West Hollywood is too expensive, and a lot of other places I look into look too trashy, or are out in the boring suburban wilderness.
I've looked at apartment listings in Studio City and it seems to be on the pricey end but feasible -- is that accurate? And does anyone have any other recommendations or advice?
Lastly, would I be a cultural match? I'm a fairly indoorsy sort of guy, but a very creative type with a business bent. My interests include cinema, literature, art (painting and sculpture), television, video games -- media in general, both new and old. Also politics, philosophy, etc. Ideal Saturday would be haunting a museum, then going to see a good foreign flick, then go to something kind of interesting like a burlesque show or a downtempo electronica gig. There a lot of my sorta people in LA?
Thanks so much!

Of these cities, which have the tallest buildings?
I will present a groups of cities, and in each group, one is the right answer, ie, has the tallest building. This is meant as a way of measuring biasGroup A:
Albequerque, New Mexico
Honolulu, Hawaii
Mobile, Alabama
Omaha, Nebraska
San Antonio, Texas
Group B:
Des Moines, Idaho
Providence, Rhode Island
Baltimore, Maryland
Akron, Ohio
Dayton, Ohio
Group C:
New Orleans, Louisiana
St. Louis, Missouri
Kansas City, Missouri
El Paso, Texas
Columbus, Ohio
Group D:
Detroit, Michigan
Charlotte, North Carolina
Miami, Florida
Phoenix, Arizona
San Francisco, California
This is another bias tester question, and there is only one right answer in each group, in large part because this is an objective question
No, this is meant to expose the bias that people have.
And this is an easy 10 pts for the first right answer
All you have to do is actually get this question right and you get the 10 pts, and one of the answers is Charlotte. First person to get it right gets 10 pts

Why would the Mexican Consulate issues ID cards on US soil ?
Could the reasons below be good reason to why they issues these ID Cards? Do people that protest the Moblie Consulate offices know why they are allowed to issue these cards on U.S. soil? What do you think?Click Here
Local US police and sheriff departments have been among the most enthusiastic backers of the consular IDs. Nationwide, an estimated 800 departments accept the matrícula as valid identification. Many cities have also received the scanners that allow officers to check the cards' most sophisticated security features.
Police departments welcome the cards for the following reasons:
•By facilitating the use of banks, the cards help immigrants avoid carrying or stockpiling large amounts of cash, which makes them targets for robbery and home invasions. In some cases, the police themselves have asked local banks to accept the matrícula.
•Having identification encourages people to report crimes and to come forward as witnesses. It also allows police to keep better records.
•When the police stop someone without identification on a minor charge, they are forced to hold them overnight when a citation would otherwise suffice. Resources are also wasted in identifying detained undocumented immigrants.
•People without identification are more likely to flee when stopped by police.
•The matrículas make it easier to identify dead or unconscious people.
•Local police are generally not responsible for immigration enforcement, so immigration status is irrelevant for their purposes.
The local governments of 80 cities, including Tucson, Phoenix, Denver, Los Angeles, San Antonio, San Francisco, Chicago, Houston, and Dallas accept the matrícula for uses such as obtaining a library card, entering public buildings, obtaining business licenses, registering children for school, and accessing a few, limited public services. At the state level, the most important use of the matrículas is in obtaining driver licenses. Although most states now require proof of legal immigration status, there are about 13 states that do accept the matrícula as proof of identity when issuing a license.

What do you think of this latest immigration raid Chandler business raided for illegal-immigrant workers?
Elias Bermudez, founder of Phoenix-based Immigrants Without Boarders, said he spoke to the wife of a man detained by investigators."Now this family is without a father," he said. "All this only brings is hurt. It is an unfortunate thing."
Bermudez agreed that Sheriff Joe Arpaio's deputies are doing their job of enforcing a misdemeanor crime, but he added that they're disrupting families and businesses throughout the Valley. He also accused Arpaio of continuing to violate peoples' civil rights.
"There are all kinds of ways he can do it," instead of raiding businesses, Bermudez said of the sheriff. "The crime he is pursuing isn't a crime of violence. These are only people that are working. That's what really hurts us."
The morning raid came as a surprise to some neighboring business owners, who declined to be identified. Many said the business park, and its two dozen free-standing buildings, is relatively quiet.
Legacy Custom Doors employs about 30 workers, according the sheriff's office.
Deputies conducted a similar raid at the Gold Canyon Candle Company on Sept. 10, which netted 23 arrests on identity theft accusations and 42 on illegal immigration accusations. The agency locked down the business for hours, keeping all employees inside for six hours.
The raid Wednesday is the fourth in the Valley - one involved a water park chain and another at landscaping company in Mesa - since the law aimed at punishing employers who knowingly hire undocumented workers went into effect at the beginning of the year.
The raids, all of which have taken place in the past four months, have continued to net employee arrests but have not resulted in any charges against the businesses or their executives.
County Attorney Andrew Thomas said in a news conference following the Gold Canyon raid that the earlier cases are continuing to move forward, even if there is no visible progress in prosecuting employers.

Was it necessary for Gov. Palin to raise taxes on groceries?
Palin has attacked Barack Obama’s tax reform plans. So looking at her record on taxes should help us understand her better. She told us that she believes in cutting taxes. And it turns out that she did cut some taxes in Alaska. And she raised some other taxes.Palin cut taxes on commercial buildings. Say, for example, that a big real estate investor in, say, Phoenix owns a few office buildings and some apartment complexes in Juneau and Fairbanks, Palin wanted them to have a reasonable rate of return on their investments, so she worked to reduce the taxes they were paying on their buildings.
Those taxes were used for things like maintaining (and plowing) the streets around the buildings, providing police and other government services for the buildings, and paying for the various government agencies that kept the cities running so that the buildings had tenants to occupy them. So cutting the taxes didn’t mean cutting the services. Instead, Palin had to find some other source of money for the services. And she did. She raised taxes on groceries.
That’s right, to provide a tax cut to large property investors, Sarah Palin increased taxes on groceries purchased to feed families.

Can I legally break my lease because of several suspicious fires?
I live in Phoenix, AZ. The apartment complex I live in has had 4 fires in less than two months. Some people say its arson, others are saying its actually poor electrical systems in the units. We've lost one whole building already, the laundry room caught fire, and then two other buildings (including one empty unit) have caught fire. Its a gated community but the emergency gates are unlocked and wide open, and the front gate which you can only get in after 6pm with a key code is almost always open all the time. So with 4 fires, gated community not being gated properly, and the fact that my car has been broken into, can I go to my leasing office and say that I don't feel safe living here anymore and break my lease? I'm really scared that I'm going to be robbed or lose my stuff in a fire. Also the gates have been open since the first fire on April 15th, and my car was broken into two days after the first fire. Been living there for nearly a year with no problems (like a break in) until now.

Snape got a copy of the newspaper saying what happened on the same day at the event. And Jessi was yelling out, "What the hell?! How would the press know the same day of the event? AND HOW COULD SEVEN MUGGLES IN LONDON SEE A FLYING CAR?! THERE HAS TO BE ALOT MORE THAN THAT!! LIKE 25 OR SOMETHING. AND HOW WOULD THE PAPERS KNOW HOW MANY PEOPLE SAW A FLYING CAR?!(Order of the phoenix)And she kept on saying, there is no way a magic school could exist in the castle without the government noticing. And what about when the buildings split up, surely someone could have noticed that.
After the movie she yells out, this movie sucks, if they have to make a make believe story at least make it realistic.
You seen these kids shows when animals talk? She asks why the hell are animals talking. Animals can't talk!

Where were you when you heard news of the attack on September 11th 2001?
I was in Phoenix, AZ. I was 17 years old and had spent the night at my best friends house.I had promised her little sister I would drive her to school so she wouldn't have to take the bus, and she woke me up about 15 minutes before she had to leave, I flipped on the TV while I waited for her to finish getting ready. The first image I saw was the attack on the pentagon. After driving my friend's sister to school, we watched in horror all day long as each event unfolded, the second plane, the buildings collapsing, our nation in heartache. My friend and I got permission from our parents to give blood and headed for the Red Cross, where we proudly saw our community coming together to give what little they could, their blood for the victims. The line was literally around the block only hours after the news shocked the country.I have never been so saddened for our country and yet so proud for our ability to give to each other in time of crisis.
Where were you and what did you observe?
